More Than Just Friends (Part 7)

Derrick lifted Rae’s hand and kissed the back of it. He had come so close to losing her tonight. He was grateful that she’d given him another chance. His jealousy had gotten the best of him and it was a costly mistake. One he wouldn’t make again.

“Rae, will you tell me about him? Do you know why Caleb is suddenly contacting you again?”

He needs to know, Rae concluded. She laced their fingers together and snuggled deeper into his arms. “I met Caleb when I went to the Bahamas two years ago. He was good looking and very smooth. I liked him immediately. We shared some of the same passions and so forth. During the week I stayed there, we saw each other often and had a few dates. When it was time to return home, we exchanged numbers. He lived in New York. For a while, we had a long distance relationship. Until he decided that he wanted to move to Atlanta. I questioned him about it. He claimed he wanted to be closer to me, which may have been partially true but I also knew he was jealous of you and our friendship.

He nibbled on her ear and she giggled. “Hmmm, I wonder why.” His voice purred in her ear.

She chuckled softly. “Do you want me to continue or not?”

“Yes, continue please.”

“He eventually moved here and things were good for a while. You even met him once.”

Derrick frowned. “When?”

“When you invited me to the Christmas gala your company had.”

He remembered now. He hadn’t paid much attention to Caleb then. His eyes had been centered on Rae and the red strapless gown she’d worn. How could he remember that but not Caleb? “I vaguely remember him. I couldn’t keep my eyes off of you that night.”

She blushed at his compliment. “Thank you. And I did notice that by that way. We will come back to that later. Not long after that, I found out that jackass was married. I heard him talking to her one night. He had no clue I was there. He claimed he was on an extended business trip. Yeah right. For three months? Even I wouldn’t believe that. I called him on it the next morning. He was so shocked and just sat there. I broke up with him and left that morning. I was not going to play the fool any longer with him or anyone else. He began stalking me after that.” She winced when Derrick’s grip tightened on her waist.

“Rae, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you.” He loosened his arms around her waist. “Why didn’t you tell me, sweetheart?”

“I don’t know. I guess I didn’t want you to see me as less than perfect.”

He stared at her for a long time before he responded. “Rae, why do you think you need to keep up this facade with me? I know you’re not perfect. You can be yourself with me. You know that and have been until we officially started a relationship. I want to see everything not just what you want me to see. Can you understand that?”

She chewed on her bottom lip. She was scared he would leave just like her father left her mother. Now her mother was a bitter woman that she couldn’t stand to be in the same room with most of the time. She watched as Derrick lowered his head and his lips mere inches from hers whispered. “Just be yourself. You won’t scare me off. I promise.” Gently, he touched his lips to hers. His tongue traced her full bottom lip then he sucked on it gently, drawing it into his mouth. She whimpered then opened for him and fully stroked his tongue with hers. She purred in her throat as his tongue continued to stroke hers. She leaned more into him as he caressed her back. She whimpered when his lips left hers.

His chest heaved and his breathing was choppy. The power that she had over him overwhelmed him. He took a few deep breaths then spoke. “Rae, marry me next week. I don’t want to prolong it any longer.” He whispered.

Her eyes rounded in surprise. “Seriously? What did you have in mind?”

He smiled. “Maybe we can go somewhere tropical like Hawaii or Barbados to wed and honeymoon. Take some close family and friends. I just don’t want to wait six more months, baby. I want forever with you as my wife urgently.”

“And what about the baby?”

He chuckled. “You just couldn’t say yes right away could you? I want our baby too. You know that or at least you should.”

She pulled him back to her face. “I know.” She was just about to resume their kiss when he made a tsking sound.

“What’s it going to be Rae? Yes or no?”

“Yes. Now stop stalling.” She placed her mouth on his and let the kiss sweep her away.

Teri looked through her window to see if she could see anything. She hoped that they weren’t fighting. The last thing she wanted was for them to break up. Finally, she caught a glimpse of them kissing and she sighed with relief. Just as she was about to go back to the car, a hand gripped her around her waist.

“Beautiful, is everything okay?” Trevor’s deep voice rumbled in her ear.

She fought like hell to control the shiver that snaked up her spine. “I thought I told you to wait in the car, Trevor.” She hissed at him.

“You were taking too long. I missed you.”

“Trevor, you shouldn’t say things like that.” She said, her voice tremulous at the thought that he actually had missed her.

“Why not? It’s the truth. I don’t know why you keep fighting this attraction we have.”

“Because I want more and you don’t.” She bit off.

He stepped back and let go of her waist. “Says who? I never said that.”

She turned to face him. “Trevor, have you ever had a serious relationship? I’ve seen you date countless women and you maybe even slept with them. But not one of them was around long enough for you to have a relationship with. How do you really expect me to take you seriously?”

He was wondering when this conversation would take place. He was more than ready to talk about it. “Ri Ri, those women you’re referring to only wanted me for my money. I knew what they were about and that’s why they never stuck around for long. I want love and passion and someone who is my equal. You’re so different from the rest of the women I’ve dated. Do you honestly think that I would take you out, call you, and spend time with you just to get sex?”

She bit down on her lip. She was unsure now. For the last few months she’d thought that he’d wanted one thing from her and she wasn’t willing to part with it. Now looking into his eyes, she could honestly see that he was sincere and that there was no ulterior motive. Why hadn’t she seen it before? Probably because you were too busy protecting yourself from hurt to see the truth. Dammit to hell. She’d pegged him wrong. Why couldn’t she have just been right? It would be so much easier and less complicated. But was it really complicated? She sighed. It wasn’t. She was just making it that way. Just go to the man you love, stop being so cautious, her inner voice urged. Taking a deep breath, she moved closer to him and wrapped her arms around his neck. She could tell she’d surprised him. She had never allowed herself to touch him intimately because if she did then there would be no going back. “I’m sorry that I judged you, Trevor. That wasn’t fair.” She said softly.

He stared into her gray eyes and then lifted his hand to trail a finger down her cheek. “I’m not mad or offended. I have some pretty thick skin. If I didn’t think you were worth it, I wouldn’t have stuck around for so long. Just take a risk and give us a chance.”

She pressed her body to his. “I still don’t like you.” She teased.

He brought his mouth close to her ear and whispered “Liar. You like me a lot and maybe someday you will love me too.” He kissed her earlobe and pulled back.

She made a moue with her mouth. “Maybe.”

His gaze ran over her face then landed on her lips. They hadn’t kissed in all of the four months they’d been dating. He had respected her space and her indifference towards him. But now he wanted so badly to taste her. To see what he had been missing. “Ri Ri, you have no idea how hard it has been for me not touch or kiss you. I’ve even had dreams about it.” He whispered

The thought of kissing him made her a little dizzy. For the last year, all she could think about was him and when he had decided to court her, she was shocked and automatically thought he had an ulterior motive. Regardless of that she loved him. The fact that he hadn’t given up on her, made her love him more. If that was possible. She licked her lips and inched closer to his face. She stopped mere inches from his lips. “Now you don’t have to dream anymore and neither will I.” She saw the stormy passion in eyes and was soon swept into the most erotic, mind blowing kiss she’d ever had in her life. His mouth was unrelenting as he delved his tongue into her mouth. When she made contact with his tongue, a jolt of lust slammed through her. She moaned and pressed closer to him. She gasped when he began to grind his hips against hers. The kiss quickly escalated into something more urgent and insistent. How long had it been since she’d been with a man? How long had it been for him? She wondered for a split second. Just as she was about to insist they go elsewhere to finish what they’d started, she heard a noise and broke the kiss. Her eyes rounded in surprise when she saw it was Raquel and Derrick. Trevor turned his head and grinned.

“Hey, sis.” Trevor said

She grinned back. Well, well what do we have here? She wondered. Her half brother and Teri were actually kissing. “Hey Trev.” She could tell he was reading her. The look in his eyes warned her not to say anything. She nodded that she understood. She walked over to him and hugged him. Congratulations, she mouthed without speaking out loud. She turned to Teri and found herself a bit upset with her. She’d never kept anything from her. “We will speak later.” She abruptly turned from her and left with Derrick.

Teri groaned. ” She’s upset with me.”

“Hey it will be alright. Why did you keep it from her?”

Teri ran her hands through her hair. “I didn’t think your intentions with me were honorable and didn’t want to disappoint her if things didn’t work out between us.”

He pulled her back to him.”Ri Ri, you want to know the reason I started pursuing you? One day we were at my dad’s house, you,me, Rae, and Derrick. We were laughing about something and when you turned to look at me, the look you gave me literally stole my breath away. The look of a woman in love. It was then that I’d realized that I wanted to share forever with you. That I could see myself with you, our children, and grand-children. And never have I felt or seen that with anyone else. I have always thought you were so beautiful but you were more beautiful that day because you let me see into your heart.”

She was rendered speechless. Oh my God, he wants forever with me. She was stupid for treating him so badly. She placed her hands on his chest and leaned into him. “Trevor, I..I love you. I have for a long time now.” She stood still as he placed a gentle kiss on her lips.

“I love you more, Teri.” He vowed once he released her lips.

She smiled. “Yeah?”

He kissed the tip of her nose. “Yeah. Let’s go inside and I will show you.” He lifted her into his arms.

“Lead the way.” She whispered Registered & Protected
