Xyla Turner’s Upcoming Release “Under Further Review”

rw19Xyla Turner’s new novel, Under Further Review, will be making it’s debut on April 15, 2016. Take a look at what the book is about as well as the excerpt. Looks like a very interesting read to me!

Blurb:

Under Further Review is a contemporary, standalone, sports romance.
Shane Sinclair, a professional football player who does not like, entertain or talk to reporters, even when he is mandated to appear for the press conferences. Shane has his reasons for his stance, which strengthens when a reporter blurts out that his father had passed, and he was not informed yet. The only reporter that gave their condolences was one of the lone female sports reporter, Diamond Reeves. Although, Shane kept his stance about the story-hungry reporters, Ms. Reeves wiggled her way through his defenses and Shane finds that he needs to maneuver past hers so that their odd friendship can go to the next level. Shane’s ex-fiancé does not take the break up easily and sets out to cause havoc for the new couple and herself.

Excerpt:

The regular season had started and Shane was back to his normal routine. He looked good, felt good and was playing good all pre-season. The new running back, that was there to replace him, was able to get some play time as well, which did not hinder any of Shane’s statistics. He found that when he was rested up, he could exert more energy. The press room was buzzing and lately asking more “Shane” questions to Matthew. To the point when Matthew said to him, “I wish you would stop being Switzerland. Can you at least talk to them in Morse code?”

Shane erupted in laughter at Matt’s comments, but finally responded with, “Man, I just can’t do it. I thought about it long and hard, but I just can’t. They are like vultures.”

Matt looked at him and said, “I think you didn’t take heed to my warning early on and got burnt, yet never got over it.” He patted Shane on the chest and said, “Some things you got to let go.”

Matt and Shane did not really have the heart to heart conversations, but he respected the guy as a leader and veteran of the sport. He also understood what he meant, to the point where he actually thought about how to rectify his hate-hate relationship with the media.

After their first home game, Shane, Matt and Raymond, the new running back, were at the center table on stage. They all immediately started asking questions, so Matt, being the leader he was, calls on one reporter who had a question for Raymond. Shane spotted the lady reporter that rebuffed him at the bar, he bent over to Matt and said, “Call on the lady reporter in the red shirt.”

Matt looks at him and gives him a knowing smile. Shane shook his head and waved him off. When Raymond finished answering, Matt pointed to the lady and said, “You in the red.”

Her hand was raised, but not in a way that looked like she wanted to be called on. Shane briefly thought, maybe she was right about not being good at the job. When Matt called on her, she looked surprised and caught off guard. She quickly recovered and announced, “Hi, um. I’m Diamond Reeves from WUSA. My question is, what do you guys do for fun besides these awesome press conferences?”

People laughed and even Shane smiled at her wit. He made a note that he liked that. When the room died down, Raymond answered first with, “I sail. It relieves stress for me.”

Matt said, “I hang out with my wife and kids.”

Nobody seemed to think Shane would answer, so when he slid the mic from in front of Matthew, the whole room seemed to turn and face him. Cameras and extended microphones included. They never even gave him his own microphone anymore.

“In my spare time, I work with a few charities and work on my Spanish. But what’s your real question?” Shane asked her, as she stood with her mouth wide open along with the rest of the room.

He thought the question would be a general question for everyone, so he slid the microphone back in front of Matt.

Again, she recovered and said, “Well, Mr. Sinclair, since you asked. I know you and Austin Daniels from the Falcons are good friends, but after that move you put on him.” She shook her head. “You peeped the blitz and ran right past him. You, Matt, saw the opening, passed the ball to Shane for a touchdown, then y’all had the nerve to go for the two-point play and Raymond gets the touchdown. How the hell do you remain friends? I wouldn’t be your friend anymore. Showing me up like that.”

The entire room erupted in laughter at what Shane thought was her cuteness, keen expertise of the game or just her wittiness. Shane even laughed and moved the microphone back in front of him and answered. “That’s funny. Well, to answer your question. Despite this being called a game of football, it’s still a business. And these,” he gestured to his other teammates, “are my business partners, so even though we may not always align, agree and have to run each other over, at the end of the day. We know it’s our job to do so. That’s why we push each other on a daily basis. Austin is a longtime friend and he understands the job very well. So, while it’s a game to you guys, this is our business.”

Diamond smiled at Shane, then nodded her head in approval, agreement or just acknowledgment. Shane couldn’t tell, but he nodded back. No sooner than his head came back up, the other reporters started to fire more questions at Shane. To address all of their questions, he moved the microphone back in front of Matt.

He was done.

Don’t Make Me Beg

Love takes two

Love takes two (Photo credit: Βethan)

I don’t want to wake up in

the morning and not find

you beside me.

To not feel your warm, sweet breath

fluttering upon my neck.

To not see your gorgeous

lashes fanning across your face.

To not feel your broad and

sculpted chest beneath my

fingers.

I want to wake up to

butterfly kisses and your teasing lips.

Kissing me on that spot just below

my earlobe. That spot that makes my

toes curl and has me begging for more.

I want you obliging my every request and

demand. Keeping me in a sea of ecstasy.

Keeping me from thinking coherently.

Only focusing on the heat that engulfs

me when you touch me. Just one touch

has me sizzling like butter in a frying pan.

Come on, my superman, soar me to the

highest of heights with your passion and love.

Give me that heady feeling that I’m addicted

to more and more. Put me on cloud nine and never let me touch

reality.

Stay with me. Because when you leave you take

a part of me with you. I don’t want to wake up

without you lying next to me. I don’t want to face the reality of life

without you. There is no me without you.

Risking Her Heart Pt. 2

He hurriedly put on his pants and walked quickly to the door. Without looking through the peep-hole, he yanked it open. And all the air rushed out of him…Sienna….He forced himself to breathe. He hadn’t expected her. God, she looked so good in her tank top and cut off shorts. He swallowed hard and made himself say something.

“Hey. What are you doing here?” He asked then cringed, Damn, that sounded lame.

Was he serious? He hadn’t seen her all week and that’s all he could say??? “Well, let’s see. You don’t come by, you stopped taking my calls, and you wouldn’t even call me. Does that about sum it up for you? Why else would I be here?” She asked, her voice rising with each word.

He sighed. Dammit, he was gonna pay for this big time. She rarely raised her voice, except when she was furious. Which wasn’t often. “Sienna….

She didn’t want to hear anything he said. The last time she had been this furious with him was years ago when they were freshmen in college. He’d stopped talking to her then too. He was too busy dating some upperclassman and had no time for her. When he’d been dumped by her, he came running back but she didn’t easily forgive him. It took her two months to get over it and let him back in. “Shut up, Antonio!! Don’t say anything. I came over here because I was worried about you and I missed you. Then when I get here you ask me a casual question as if we had seen each other all week?? As if nothing had happened between us? It was nothing to you to be away from me, huh? You didn’t give a shit, did you? How is that possible?”

He flinched at her words. She also didn’t make it a habit of swearing, either. “Sienna…

“Shut up!!!” She screamed and turned to go back to her car. She was a fool for coming here. On the way over, she’d tried not to get angry with him but the more she thought about how he just casually tossed her away after he didn’t get what he wanted, the angrier she got. Granted, she hadn’t told him the truth about her feelings but still, she wouldn’t have treated him like this. She didn’t get two steps before he grabbed her arm and quickly walked her into his house. He slammed the door shut and pinned against her the door.

“How far did you actually think you would get?” He asked

Her chest heaved uncontrollably. “Get off me, Antonio. I’m warning you.”

“Or what? Huh Sienna? What will you do?” He taunted. He knew the anger was just a cover up for how she truly felt. He’d hurt her badly and it was easier for her to be angry with him.

She growled and pounded his chest furiously. “Get off me! I hate you! How could you leave me like that?! I hate you, Antonio!” She collapsed in his arms and sobbed.

He’d caught her just in time. He lifted her petite body into his arms and carried her to the couch. God, he felt horrible. He shouldn’t have left her. He sat down and held her close to him as she continued to cry. Rubbing her back softly, he whispered his love for her over and over again. He couldn’t help it. Finally, after a long excruciating moment, he felt her relax and sniffle.

She slowly lifted her head from his chest and stared at his muscles for a moment before meeting his penetrating gaze. She swallowed hard. Her mouth suddenly dry. “I didn’t realize you….” She shook her head and started over. “I’m sorry I cried all over you, Tony.”

He tangled his hands in her curls and brought her face closer to his. She looked beautiful, even with puffy eyes and a red nose. “It’s okay. I’m so sorry I hurt you, sweetheart. I was hurt. I didn’t think things through.”

She placed her hands on his chest and leaned in to him until there was little space between them. “Tony…

“We can still be friends. Things don’t have to change.” He kept talking as if he hadn’t heard her.

“Tony, would you please be quiet?” She closed the space between them and pressed her mouth softly onto his. She drew back. “I’m sorry that I said I hated you. I don’t. Please know that.” She whispered and kissed him again. This time he reciprocated. He nibbled on the corner of mouth and then teased her with his tongue. She deepened the kiss and eagerly accepted his tongue into her mouth. She moaned when their tongues met. His tongue tasted of raspberries. Hmm, her favorite. She sampled all he had to offer and then some. The kiss went on and on, until finally he broke the kiss. He laid his forehead against hers and their harsh breathing filled the air.

“I didn’t expect that, Sienna. I…God, do you have any idea what you do to me? I really hope this wasn’t something you did out of pity.”

She frowned. “Of course it wasn’t done out of pity! What the hell, Tony? You really think I would do that?”

He entwined their hands together. “Stop. Just tell me. Please.”

She sighed. “No, Tony. I would never do that. Why would I ever do that? I love you too much to-

“Whoa. You what?” He lifted his head from hers and dropped her hands.

She smiled. “I love you, Antonio. You heard me right.”

“But you said that you didn’t love me that way.” He said in disbelief. Why had she lied to him? He wondered

“I know what you are thinking. You’re wondering about the reason that I lied. Well, I was scared and I don’t know how this is going to work. You’re the only man I’ve ever let myself fall for. I just got really good at hiding my feelings. I’m sorry. Seems like I’m saying that a lot today.”

He swallowed hard. She loved him. He knew it! Or rather he had suspected she was hiding her feelings. He pulled her into his arms and hugged her. “Sienna, I love you so much. I’m glad you love me too. I honestly don’t know if I could have been only friends again but I would’ve tried.”

She caressed his cheek. “Tony, you drive me insane sometimes, I swear. But I’m glad you’re glad. I missed you a lot.” Her hands slid to the back of his neck and tugged him closer. She placed an open-mouthed kiss onto his mouth and she felt his hands tighten in her hair. It felt good. He rolled her underneath him and plunged his tongue into her open mouth. She moaned softly and wrapped her arms around his neck. When she felt his body press against hers…oh man…she felt herself getting damp below…It had been a long time since she’d felt that…Allowed herself to feel like this. Then he started slowly rocking his hips against hers and she tore her mouth free from his kiss.

She gasped loudly. “Tony…” She whispered

“Yes, baby?” He rumbled near her ear. He licked a trail from her ear to her neck and felt her shudder beneath him. God, she felt so good beneath him like this.

“Are we ready for this?” She asked, doubt filled her voice

He lifted his head to look into those gorgeous amber eyes of hers. “Too soon?” He asked. The last thing he wanted to do was rush her into something she wasn’t ready for.

She chewed on her lip for a second. “I wouldn’t say that. I just think maybe we should go on a date first, perhaps?”

A slow smile spread across his face. He’d forgotten that his Sienna was still innocent in certain areas. He could wait for as long as she wanted him to. “Would tomorrow be too soon for you?”

“Tomorrow is perfect. You’re sure you’re okay with this?”

He kissed her full lips to reassure her. “Baby, you know me. I’m a very patient man. I will wait as long as you want me to. Okay?”

She smiled. “Okay. What time should I be ready?”

“Be ready at seven.”

“And where are we going?”

He nibbled on her mouth. “You’ll see.”

She smiled again. “I love surprises.” She whispered, quickly becoming aroused by his nibbling.

“I know, sweetheart.” He kissed her full lips again and then there was nothing but silence.

Risking Her Heart

Sienna exhaled slowly, trying to calm down her racing heart and pulse. Antonio had just kissed her moments ago. On the dance floor. In front of all their family and friends. She lifted her hand to her lips and smiled softly. Nothing could have prepared her for that spine tingling, make your toes curl kiss. She had never had a kiss like that in her entire adult life. Sure, she’d been kissed before but never had it been so erotic. What was he thinking though? I mean they were best friends. Had been since they were toddlers. They knew everything about each other. Except this. He had kept this from her. What exactly was THIS though? When had they ever had secrets before? She wondered. Okay, that wasn’t fair. She had a secret of her own but now that he’d done this, what was she suppose to do? She really needed some answers and the only person she could get them from was Antonio. Turning to go back inside to the party to find him, she and Antonio bumped right into each other.

“Oh!” She cried out as she almost fell backwards before Tony caught her.

“Sienna, I’m so sorry. Are you okay?” He searched her eyes.

Physically, yes. Emotionally, no. “I’m okay.” She tried to stand up but instead he lifted her into his arms. A few people on the terrace were looking and she blushed. Despite that she linked her arms around his neck. It felt good to be this close to him “Antonio, you can put me down.” Why did she sound breathless? Her gaze dropped to his lips and lingered. Maybe she should initiate this time. Sienna, cut it out!! Her inner voice yelled but she ignored it. She lifted her eyes to meet his and she watched, fascinated at how his green eyes blazed with hunger. Hunger for her. Wow. This was definitely different.

He trailed a finger down her cheek and cradled her closer in his arms. “Not a chance of that happening. Are you sure you’re okay? I didn’t hurt you did I?”

“No, Tony. You didn’t hurt me, physically. I’m just confused about what’s going on between us? You’ve never kissed me before.”

No he hadn’t. He wasn’t sure what had possessed him to do such a thing in front of everyone. All he knew was that he’d been jealous for most of the night, as she danced with other men and not him. And he’d gotten tired of it. It was no secret to his family nor hers that he loved her as more than his best friend. Sienna was the only one who didn’t know the full truth. He’d wanted to tell her so many times but could never find the right words. Hell, where there any right words? He prayed the truth wouldn’t make her run. Sienna had a bad habit of not facing things head on.

“I know we need to talk, Sienna. You ready to get out of here?”

She smiled. “Sure. But can you let me walk? Not that this isn’t nice but we have spectators.”

He could care less about who was watching but he didn’t want to embarrass her any further. “Okay, sweetheart. Down you go.” He placed her on her feet and led her down to the parking lot. When he reached his car, he didn’t unlock it. He leaned back against it and brought her flush against his chest. “Is here, okay?” He let his hand slide down to her tiny waist. She looked incredibly beautiful tonight with her strapless ivory gown.

She nodded because she couldn’t speak. Her body was too aware of those muscles beneath his shirt and pants. She swallowed hard as she looked into his eyes. She had always loved the color of his eyes and his olive skin against her mocha skin. Too many times, she’d convinced herself not to dwell on it. He was caressing her back now and she shuddered from the contact. “What’s happening with us, Tony?” She finally asked him.

He let out a deep breath. “I love you, Sienna.”

“I love you too, Tony, but…

He placed a finger on her lips. “No, love. Not like I love you.”

Her eyes widened in surprise. Oh God. She swallowed hard. “You love me as more than a friend?”

He nodded. “Yes.”

But…But how?” She sputtered

He almost smiled at her reaction but he held it in. “It started senior year. The moment I realized you weren’t my pesky best friend anymore was at prom. I saw the woman you were. The woman I wanted to get to know. The woman I wanted to love me back just as desperately.”

“Oh, Tony.” She laid her head on his chest and sighed. “Why didn’t you say something?”

He stroked her curls and kissed the top of her head. “I didn’t want to lose you. Us. But now I’m tired of holding it in. I know you may not feel the same way, but at least now you know.” He secretly hoped that she did.

She lifted her head from his chest. “You could never lose me, Tony. I will admit that I’ve thought about us as a couple before but as for loving you that way…I don’t.” That wasn’t the complete truth but she didn’t want to risk their friendship. Not for something that may or may not last. Lord, how could she just lie to him like that??? She asked herself.

He sucked in a sharp breath at her words. He’d known that was a possibility, but why did it hurt so much? “Don’t worry about it. At least I know, now.

“Tony, please…

He untangled himself from her and immediately felt cold. “I gotta go. I will call you later, okay?” He placed a kiss on her cheek and opened his car door to get in. He didn’t dare look at her as he backed out of the parking space. She might see his true emotions. As he zoomed out of the parking lot in his Corvette, with his heart in his throat, he knew things would never be the same between them again. He should have just kept his mouth shut.

(A week later)

Nearly a week had passed, and Sienna had not seen or heard from Tony. He didn’t drop by for coffee, nor did he take her to work like he normally did. They didn’t workout together or have dinner in the evenings . She felt like she was going crazy. He wouldn’t even answer her calls. She couldn’t even remember the number of times she’d called him. Ugh!! She was going over to his house. She was tired of him ignoring her. Before she could reach the door to leave, her phone rang in the kitchen. She rushed to the phone, hoping it was him calling her.

“Tony?” She answered on impulse. Silence. “Hello??”

“Hey, sweetie. It’s Samantha.”

She slowly sank onto the bar stool by the counter. “Oh. Hey sis.”

Samantha laughed softly. “Well, I’m guessing that I wasn’t the one you wanted to hear from.”

Sienna groaned. “Sis, I’m sorry. I’m just worried and about to go a little stir crazy over here. He’s my best friend.”

“I know, sweetheart. And you love him.”

She shook her head even though her sister couldn’t see her. “I…I don’t want to discuss that, Sam.”

“But you do. Tell me something. Why can’t you be honest with yourself?”

“I don’t want to lose our friendship. What other reason could there be, Sam?” Sienna asked in a frustrating tone.

“Honestly, I think you’re afraid to take a chance. It could be the best thing that ever happened to you, little sis. You deserve to have some joy, don’t you? The man is in love with you, girl. Now, I know he’s Italian but so what? The man pampers you all the time. Who wouldn’t want that?”

Darn, she hated it when Sam started to make sense. She was right. She loved Antonio. For a long time, she’d repressed those feelings and had gotten use to doing it. Now when he revealed his feelings to her, she lied to protect herself. She was being a coward of the worst kind.

“Sienna? You still there?”

“Yes, I’m here. I’m going to go see him.”

Samantha sighed. “Sienna, that’s why I called. I saw him today.”

Sienna frowned. “You did? Where?”

“At the market. He looked…really bad, sis. Like he was distraught..Like he was..

“Heartbroken?” She knew the feeling.

“Yeah. I agree that you should go to him. He’s a good man and you know it. So go for it.”

Sienna smiled. “You’re only encouraging me to go because you’re married to his brother.”

Sam laughed. “Whatever. You know I’m right. Get off the phone and go.”

“I will. Give that bun in the oven, a hello from his auntie.” She cooed

“I will. Bye, sis.”

“Bye.” She jumped off the bar stool after hanging up, then ran out the door.

(Antonio’s house)

Antonio flipped the channels on the television, trying like hell not to think about Sienna and how she’d broken his heart. He’d been avoiding her and knew by now she was worried sick. It was unfair for him to treat her like this but what else could he do? He wanted a life with her as his girlfriend and at some point his wife but she didn’t want that with him. Or at least that’s what she’d said. Uh huh. He was not going there. He’d done enough ‘what if’ scenarios and frankly he was tired. But apparently his brain wasn’t. He couldn’t help wondering if she’d lied to him about her feelings. He hadn’t thought about this all week until now, but her actions said something totally different. The way she’d wrapped around him that night at the party and she’d kissed him back for crying out loud! If she hadn’t felt the same way, she would have stopped him, right? Other little things stood out like how she would curl around him during a movie or hold his hand when they went sight-seeing. He jumped up from the couch to get dressed. He had to find out. He had to see her. Just as he was putting on his pants, he heard the doorbell. Damn! He wondered who that could be…

More Than Just Friends

Good Morning, my fellow subscribers! I haven’t been on here in a while and I know you’re just dying to read a short story or two. At least, I hope you are! As promised, it is here. More Than Just Friends, is a short story that I wrote about two friends who have loved each other a long time and are finally coming out about their feelings for one another. This is just the beginning of the short story. There will more to come. I hope you enjoy it! Leave feedback if you desire! Have a great day!

Derrick sat at his table impatiently waiting for his date. Where the hell is she? He muttered under his breath. He’d been waiting for almost an hour for her to arrive. Of course, he’d wait forever if that’s what it took for her to realize that he loved her. For so long, he and Raquel had been friends…since their college days but he had always thought there was something more between them…even if they didn’t acknowledge it then.
He looked at his watch again. Was she backing out on him? She could have at least called or something. It wasn’t like her not to. Something had to be wrong. He stood, dropped a few bills on the table, and hastily left the restaurant. He had to find her.
Raquel sat on her bed thinking about how much of a coward she had become. She was supposed to be on a date with Derrick tonight yet she hadn’t even made it out of the front door. She sighed heavily. Derrick, whom she loved deeply and wholeheartedly. Derrick, whom she had been friends with for nearly eight years and in love with for just as long. She couldn’t imagine life without him, but she was scared. She didn’t want to lose their friendship by becoming lovers, which she knew for a fact would happen soon if they continued to date. No woman in her right mind would not want to make love to that fine specimen of a man. Derrick was six feet tall, had a lean, hard body, his skin was the color of milk chocolate, and he had a dazzling smile that could make you wet instantly. She knew from personal experience. Oh yes, they would in fact become lovers. Except it would be different because she knew every muscle and contour of his hard sexy body…knew every cut and scrape…every hot spot he had which she had learned by accident each time they tickled each other or when she gave him a massage. There had been many intimate moments between them that she had chosen to ignore. But now…A knock at the door interrupted her thoughts. She knew it was Derrick. Somehow she managed to get downstairs on unsteady legs and swung open the door. He looked so good in his blue jeans and black sweater. She had to keep her mouth from watering. She noticed his gaze roamed over her body. She instinctively closed her robe, forgetting she only had on a black negligee beneath it.
“Well, it’s good to know that you’re okay at least.” He said in a sarcastic manner. Here he was worrying about her and she was sitting at home.
She could tell he was angry and he had every right to be. “Derrick, let me explain.”
He shook his head. “Rae, let’s just let it go. I knew it was a shot in the dark. You could have at least called me though.” He turned away abruptly. This wasn’t the time to talk about this. He didn’t want to bite her head off.
She reached out to him and grabbed his arm before he could leave her. She felt his muscles tighten against her touch. She knew this wouldn’t be easy. “D, I’m sorry about this. I chickened out. Please don’t leave.” She pleaded softly
He turned back to face her. He stared into her amber eyes for a long moment before he asked his question. “Rae, do you want this? Us? Just tell me the truth. I can take it.”
She chewed on her bottom lip before she answered. “Of course I do, I’m just so scared of losing you if this doesn’t work out. Have you thought about that?”
More times than he cared to remember, he thought. He smiled. “Yes, for the last five years.”
Her breath hitched in her throat. What? Five years? How was that possible?
He pulled her closer to him. “Stop trying to add it up in your head. This wasn’t a decision made on a whim.”
“I see. I didn’t know you’d felt this way for so long. You never said anything.”
He kissed the tip of her nose. “I know, but neither did you.” He kissed her eyelids. For some reason, he couldn’t stop kissing her. Hell, he didn’t want to.
Somehow she found herself in his arms and surprisingly she didn’t want to be anywhere else but right here. Her breath caught when he continued to shower her with kisses. “Derrick” She whispered huskily
His dark eyes looked into her eyes. Suddenly, it occurred to her that he was laying his heart on the line for their relationship. That he wanted to pursue one regardless of the risks. The realization of that touched her so deeply that she pulled his head down so that his lips could meet hers. She saw the surprise in his eyes before desire replaced it. She gently touched her lips to his and instantly she felt a flame engulf her body. It wasn’t enough though. The brief kiss only made her want more. She had to get closer. She pressed her body to his and then opened her mouth beneath his and he greedily took possession of her tongue with his own. Damn, he can kiss, she thought. She found herself lost in the passion of their kiss. If they never came up for air, it wouldn’t bother her one bit. She loved his mouth, tongue, body, personality, just everything Derrick. She’d been in love with him for so long and was glad he’d realized that he had feelings for her. She moaned loudly when she felt him cupping her round backside. Slowly, he lifted her into his arms and walked them back into her house without breaking the kiss.
Derrick wasn’t sure what made Rae kiss him ,but he was glad that she did. She tasted so good and he just couldn’t get enough of her beautiful mouth. It was their first kiss and what a kiss it was. There had been other times when they had come close to kissing but never anything like this…full of passion and fire. He vaguely remembered entering the house and lying on her bed. He finally broke the kiss to look at her. He loved how her red and brown curly hair was spread out against the white sheets. She looked every bit like the angel she was. He leaned down to kiss her slowly and thoroughly.
“Rae, are you sure about this?’ He asked once he broke the kiss.
She smiled. “Having second thoughts?”
He shook his head. “No, baby, I’m not. I just want to make sure that you know we are going to make love tonight and every night after this.”
She leaned up to touch her mouth to the base of his neck. She placed a small kiss there and heard his breath catch. “I know we are, D.”
“Rae, how did you know that was my—
“How did I know that was one of your hotspots?” She proceeded to pull his sweater over his head. “I know a lot of things, Derrick. Like how you like your chest to be caressed.” She skimmed her fingernails over his chest over and over again and watched how he was slowly losing control. Then he did something she wouldn’t have expected. He reached down, opened her robe wider, then reached beneath her negligee and ripped off her thong underwear. She gasped. God, that was sexy, she thought. When he slowly slid two of his fingers inside of her vagina, she nearly screamed from the sheer pleasure of it. She bit down hard on her lip when he began rotating his fingers then sliding them back and starting all over again. Her orgasm was bubbling to the surface too quick. It had been at least two years since she’d been with a man sexually. So it was too be expected, she gathered.
She threw her head back when her body began quivering from head to toe. “Derrick!!” She screamed
He groaned. “That’s right. Come for me, baby.”
Before she could finish her first orgasm, another one slammed into her when he began lapping up her juices with his tongue. She screamed again and tried to squirm free from his hold on her hips but he just held on tighter. After a long moment of torturing her,he lifted his head and smiled at her.
“You play dirty, D.” She
teased
He shrugged. “You started it, Rae.”
She smiled mischievously. “I suppose I did. Now take off those clothes and come here.” She hurriedly stripped off her robe and watched with utter fascination as he slowly unbuckled his belt then the button on his jeans. When both his briefs and jeans were discarded, she stared at his erection. He knew he had all that under there.
“Rae?”
“Hmmm?”
“You’re staring, baby.” He crooned
She shook her head. “I’m sorry but damn Derrick.”
He made his way toward her. “Tell me what’s on your mind.”
“You have one beautifully made body.”
“Thank you, baby.” He settled his body in between her legs. “Now you can have it all to yourself.” He slowly entered her warmth. She was so tight. He would ask her about that later. For now, he intended to give her everything she wanted. He thrust slowly inside her. He had to fight hard not to come right then and there. It had been so long for him. He’d stopped sleeping with other women about a year ago when he realized that he would never get serious with any of them because the woman he wanted was right next door to him. Her legs wrapped around his waist…pulling him in deeper. She began dipping and swerving her hips in sync with his repeated thrusts. He was sure he wouldn’t survive the end of this if she kept that up but he couldn’t tell her to stop because it felt so damn good. He thrust harder as he felt his release on the brink.
“Derrick, don’t stop, baby!” She screamed
He looked into her eyes. So many emotions were running through him. He loved her with ever fiber in his being. She had been his rock during the bad times. She had always been there for him. A true friend indeed. She’d hid her feelings for him for a long time. He knew it even if she wouldn’t say it because he had done the same thing. He lowered his head to kiss her delectable mouth as his release made him tremble. He held on tighter to her hips and he felt her come right along with him. She clawed at his back as he kept kissing her. Finally, he let them up for air.
He couldn’t hold it in any longer and had to tell her. “I love you, Raquel.” He made sure he looked in her eyes when he said it. She didn’t say anything but the look in her eyes told him that she loved him too. He pulled her on top of him and wrapped his arms around her. Even if she couldn’t tell him it was okay, but he would make sure that she did eventually.
The next morning, Derrick woke up to someone kissing his chest. He groaned and tried to get back to sleep but the person was insistent. She placed a kiss on his lips and he felt himself kissing her back.
“Good morning, sleepyhead.” Rae said once she broke the kiss
He opened his eyes and smiled. Rae. Last night’s events tumbled back into his mind. She looked so adorable with her hair all over her head. “Good morning, sweetie. How long have I been out?”
“It’s barely eight o’clock.”
He groaned. “Rae, please just let me go back to sleep. It’s too early.”
She laughed. She knew he wasn’t a morning person which is the reason she’d purposely awakened him. She rubbed her body against his. “You won’t even wake up for me?”
He popped open an eye. “I might reconsider for you.”
She laughed again. “Thanks, I think.”
He cupped her cheek. “I love seeing you smile, baby.”
She leaned into his hand. “About what you said last night–”
“You don’t have to say anything if you don’t feel the same way, Rae. Really—
She placed a finger over his mouth. “Would you shut up? I’m trying to say something here.”
“Sorry” He mumbled
She took a deep breath. “Derrick, you have been my friend for a long time, eight years to be exact and I’ve been in love with you just as long. I’ve never said anything because I didn’t want to screw up our friendship. Now that things have changed, I can finally tell you what I’ve always wanted to scream out loud. I love you too, Derrick James Whitfield. There is no other person I would rather love than you.”
He leaned up to kiss her deeply. His heart swelled at her words. She loved him. He knew it but hearing her say the words gave him so much joy. “I love you too, Raquel Simone Williams.”
She scrunched her nose. “You know I can’t stand my middle name.”
He laughed. “I know but since you named mines, it’s only fair that I name yours.”
She rolled her eyes. “Fine, whatever. Do you want some breakfast?”
He kissed her neck. “The only breakfast I want right now is you.”
She squealed as he tumbled her over. “I suppose I could make an exception.”

QUESTION OF THE DAY

THIS IS ONE OF MY REFLECTION MOMENTS:
I HEARD SOMEONE ASK: WOULD YOU TALK  (GET TO KNOW SOMEONE WITH THE INTENT TO HAVE A RELATIONSHIP) TO SOMEONE THAT LIVES WITH A SIGNIFICANT OTHER? HMM, GOOD QUESTION. NORMALLY, I WOULDN’T PUT MYSELF OUT HERE LIKE THIS BUT SINCE I HAVE VICTORY OVER THIS AND IT’S BEHIND ME…I WILL TALK ABOUT IT. (S.N. IF YOU FEEL THE NEED TO JUDGE, THEN THAT’S BETWEEN YOU AND GOD BUT DON’T PUT THAT FOOLISHNESS ON MY BLOG)

BEFORE I WAS MARRIED, I TALKED TO A MARRIED MAN WHO QUOTE/UNQUOTE WAS GETTING A DIVORCE. NOW MIND YOU, THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME GETTING INVOLVED WITH SOMEONE WHO WAS MARRIED. I LIKED THE GUY AND WHAT HAVE YOU SO WE TALKED OVER THE PHONE (HE LIVED IN BALTIMORE AND OF COURSE, I WAS IN DALLAS). I HAD NO CLUE THAT HE LIVED WITH HIS WIFE. I ASSUMED THEY WERE SEPARATED AND LIVING IN SEPARATE HOUSEHOLDS. WHEN HE TOLD ME FINALLY (THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN MY FIRST CLUE THAT HE WAS KEEPING THINGS FROM ME), I STILL CONTINUED TO TALK TO HIM…WHY YOU ASK? WELL, I THOUGHT THAT THE FACT THAT THEY WERE GETTING A DIVORCE MADE IT OKAY FOR ME TO CONTINUE GETTING TO KNOW HIM…AFTER SOME TIME, I ACTUALLY THOUGHT THAT I LOVED THIS MAN AND MAYBE SOME PART OF ME DID BUT WHAT WE WERE DOING WASN’T RIGHT AT ALL…I EVEN WENT TO VISIT HIM IN BALTIMORE (STAYED FOR THE WEEKEND) AND HE CAME TO VISIT ME TOO IN DALLAS. CRAZY, RIGHT? I KNOW. SO AFTER THE LAST TIME THAT I SAW HIM, IT BECAME PLAINLY OBVIOUS THAT THE DIVORCE WASN’T GOING TO HAPPEN. HE KEPT PUSHING IT BACK BECAUSE HE COULDN’T BEAR TO BE APART FROM HIS KIDS, ETC. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, WE EVENTUALLY STOPPED TALKING ALTOGETHER (GIVEN THAT HE WAS IN THE ARMY AND WAS DEPLOYED TO IRAQ).

I’M TELLING YOU ALL THIS BECAUSE IT WILL SHED SOME LIGHT ON HOW IT IS EASY TO GET CAUGHT UP IN THE WRONG THINGS, EVEN IF IT IS SOMETHING YOU NORMALLY DON’T CONDONE. NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS, DID I THINK THAT I WOULD BE INVOLVED WITH A MARRIED MAN BUT THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. GOOD THING, HE LEFT FOR IRAQ WHEN HE DID OR I WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEE CLEARLY. SO THERE IT IS…A PORTION OF MY LIFE THAT YOU KNOW ABOUT.  KNOWING WHAT I KNOW AND IF I WASN’T MARRIED, I WOULDN’T TALK TO NOR GET INVOLVED PHYSICALLY WITH SOMEONE THAT LIVED WITH A  SIGNIFICANT OTHER BECAUSE I WOULDN’T WANT IT TO HAPPEN TO ME…SOMETHING I WISH I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT THEN…BUT PRAISE GOD FOR DELIVERANCE, GRACE AND MERCY. I DIDN’T DESERVE HIS GRACE AND MERCY BUT HE GAVE IT TO ME ONCE I DECIDED TO STRAIGHTEN OUT MY LIFE. I HOPE THIS ENCOURAGES SOMEONE…KNOW THAT EVEN THOUGH YOU MESS UP…IT ISN’T THE END OF THE WORLD….JUST DON’T MAKE IT A HABIT. BE BLESSED YA’LL!

EXCERPT OF “FORGIVE AND FORGET”

Chardae sighed as she lay with her cheek pressed to her husband’s chest. They’d just finished making love and he did not disappoint.  No not all. In fact,  he’d been at his very best tonight. So much so that she couldn’t help but give him her best too. For the last three months, they’d been separated because of his infidelity.  She closed her eyes and squeezed them tight, willing herself not to think about his betrayal. But she couldn’t help but think about it. It wasn’t that long ago. When he’d told her about his affair with a twenty-three year old, about half her age, it just about tore her apart. The fact that she was family, hurt even more. As much as she’d tried to pretend that it was all joke, she knew that it wasn’t. He’d never joke with her about such things. She remembered how she’d thrown him out of their home that they’d built together. A home that they were suppose to live in together for the rest of their lives.

She inhaled sharply. “Are you serious? You slept with someone else?” Her heart beat rapidly in her chest as if it was going to bust out of her chest at any moment.

He hesitated for a brief moment. “Yes, I  slept with someone else. I slept with her one time. It didn’t just happen, Chardae. I had to time to think about it. It was a mistake.”

She could feel the tears behind her eyes. She hated feeling weak. “But why? Did I not make you happy? What could I’ve done to make you betray me, Jake?”

He didn’t want this. He didn’t want her to blame herself. “Chardae, please don’t do this. It wasn’t about you. You did everything right. It’s me.” That wasn’t entirely true but he didn’t want the blame to be placed on her shoulders.

She didn’t believe anything that came out of his lying mouth. He was holding back as usual. “Jacob, I suggest you tell the truth because lying will not get you anywhere.” She knew that she’d gained about 15 pounds within the last few months but that shouldn’t have made him cheat. It had to be something else.  When he didn’t say anything, that made her even more nervous. “Jake?”

He exhaled a shaky breath. He absolutely could not tell her that he’d slept with her cousin, Kim. “Chardae, it wasn’t you. I just made a foolish mistake. I let her get to close to me and vice versa and that’s how it all got started.”

She narrowed her eyes at him. She’d been with this man for too many years not to know when he was leaving something out. “Who is she?” She didn’t want to know but she asked anyway.

“Chardae, please.” Jacob pleaded.

She crossed her arms. “Who the hell is she, Jacob?”

He let out a frustrated groan. God, she was too inquisitive for her own good. If he didn’t tell her then she would just keep asking him. Damn. “It’s your cousin. I slept with Kim, Chardae. She began calling me about two months ago. I’m still not sure why but that’s how it began.”

Her jaw nearly dropped. “Are you kidding me? You slept with my cousin, Kim? Are you out of your mind?!” She shouted. Her entire being began to tremble. She was beyond pissed off. Hell, she was infuriated. “Get your sorry, no good behind out of my house! And if you know what’s good for you, you won’t come back!”

“Chardae, let’s be reasonable. Let’s talk about it.” Jacob tried to reason with her although he knew it was no use to do so. His wife could be as stubborn as a mule sometimes.

This had to be some sick joke. He wanted to talk about it? “Talk about it? What is there to talk about? You’ve obviously made up your mind that you would rather sleep with a hoe like Kim then to be with a classy woman like me. She has three kids with three different men. Do you really think she cares about you? This is the last time I’m going to tell you this….GET OUT!” She screamed.

Jacob knew better than to argue with her. He picked up his keys and his duffel bag and made a hasty retreat. When he shut the door, she fell to the floor and let the tears fall.

She felt his arm tighten around her waist, bringing her out of her reverie. She looked up to find him staring at her intently. “Don’t think about it.” He said softly and then slid his finger down her cheek.

“I’m trying not to.” Which in fact was the truth. She’d been successful in not thinking about it before they’d tumbled into bed. She blushed when she thought about how he’d tore her clothes off when they’d argued earlier. Apparently, he’d been as sexually frustrated as she was.

He smiled. “Try harder. I don’t want us to go back to that. I want us to move forward. I’ve missed you.”

She lifted her hand to caress his cheek. “I know, Jacob.” Then she moved atop him and met his soft lips, in a kiss that was sure to inflame her entire being. She parted her lips to invite his tongue in and he complied with what she wanted.  She sighed as he slid inside her again. Was it possible for her to want him again so soon? Apparently so, because her body began to move on its own accord. He skimmed his fingers down her back which caused her to shudder and surprisingly, fueled her fire more. She leaned over more so that he could suck and pull on her aching breasts. When he pulled one of her nipples in between his teeth, she moaned so loud she was sure the neighbors could hear her. She rode him so fierce that her body convulsed when she reached completion and he groaned her name when he followed not too long after her. Breathing rapidly, she lay her body down on his.

“Maybe we should fight more often.” He teased

She chuckled. “Maybe. What was the argument about again?”

He laughed. “Honestly, I can’t remember. When you showed up here to my hotel room in that dress, I couldn’t think about anything else.”

She felt her face flush. “I guess it was a bit revealing. If you couldn’t think of much else then why did you argue with me?” She’d been on her way to a banquet that was being given for one of her co-workers, when she received a call from her lawyer. When she’d learned that Jacob was planning to pay her alimony, she turned her car around to go to his hotel so that she could tell him just how much she didn’t want his money. At the point she’d forgotten all about the revealing dress she was wearing. The dress she’d worn was black and had a deep split in the chest area and the rest molded to her curvaceous body all the way down to her knees. She was proud that she’d lost at least twenty pounds since she’d found out about his affair. Losing the excess weight had strengthened her self-esteem. It hadn’t been easy but nothing ever was.

“Not sure. I was doing it half-heartedly. I kept thinking about how to get you out of that dress. I guess the argument worked to my advantage.”

She laughed. “You’re shameless. I can’t complain though.”

He moaned. “I can’t either. I’ve missed you.” Truth is he had missed her terribly. So much so that he’d fallen into some kind of depression over the last few months. Sure, he and Chardae had gone to a few marriage counseling sessions before they’d decided to get a divorce, but that made seeing her that much harder. Especially when she hadn’t forgiven him for his betrayal. He still wasn’t sure whether she had forgiven him or not. He wasn’t sure if even wanted to know. Having her in his arms, made him extremely happy.

“I’ve missed you too, Jacob. So much.” She admitted.  She never would have told him that a few months ago but she figured honesty was the best policy at this point.

He lifted up slightly and she moved with him. “You’ve missed me?”

She smiled. “Of course I have. You seemed surprised to hear that.”

“Well, yeah. Every time that I have seen you, you’ve wanted to cut my head off.”

She sighed. That was true. She’d never let on that she’d missed him. How could she when she’d been so hurt and broken? “Jacob, I was hurt. What did you expect? Regardless, I still missed you….us….our life together….our marriage.”

He nodded because his throat was constricted because of the words she’d just said to him. He never would have thought that she still wanted him…after all that had happened. “Thank you.” He said a few minutes later, when he felt like he could speak.

She wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned in closer. “No, thank you.” She brought her mouth to his and kissed him passionately.

“We need to talk.” He murmured against her lips.

“Later.” She mumbled. She heard him let out a sigh of contentment and he made love to her again.

EXCERPT OF “YOURS TRULY”

Prelude

“I can’t stand you, dammit!” Brooke threw a glass across the room at him from the kitchen.

This woman must be out of her damn mind throwing his belongings in his house. He ducked before the glass could hit him and instead it hit the wall behind him. “You need to get out of my house with all that.” He said angrily

“Why can’t you spend time with me? You can spend all day with your boy, Matthew, but you can’t find any time for me? How is that fair?” Brooke whined

He tried to reign in his temper but her ridiculous whining was irritating him. “Brooke, I make time for you. Hell, I spend almost every day with you. You just can’t accept the fact that you can’t have me all to yourself. You’re selfish and spoiled. You always have been since the start of this relationship. Hell, even before we became a couple.”

She screamed and stomped her foot in a childlike manner. “You don’t know a good thing when you see it. I’m tired of wasting my time with you.”

He frowned deeply. He was so fed up with this shit. It was time to end this. “So, now you’re wasting your time with me? Well, you know what? Let me help you out then.” He walked over to his door and opened it for her. He watched as her eyes widened and realization dawned on her that she was being kicked out of his house. “You can leave now.” He said when she didn’t move.

She held her head high. He would not get the best of her. “You know what? You’re not worth it. I’m out of here.” She walked through the door with her head held high and he slammed it shut behind her.

Women… What was that saying? You can’t live with them and you can’t live without them. He had a different viewpoint on that theory. He had to calm down before he lost it. If Brooke hadn’t left, they may have ended up fighting. He’d never hit a woman in his entire life but he’d come close to it with her. She had a way of annoying the hell out of him with her constant whining and neediness. He did not understand women. It was as if nothing was ever good enough for them. Sometimes, he just wanted to give up on them all together and live the rest of his life as a single, unattached man. He was a decent guy with his own architectural business, car, and house. He was thirty-five years old, six feet tall, African-American, one-hundred and seventy pounds with caramel skin, gray eyes, low cropped hair, and a well sculpted chest and rock hard abs from the countless times he benched weights at the gym. He wasn’t conceited about his looks, just a humble guy looking for a do right woman, yet he seemed to get involved with the craziest women.

He’d met Brooke December 2009 on Rodeo Drive when she was walking out of Louis Vuitton. She’d had a ton of bags and like a gentleman he’d offered to help her carry them to her car.  His first assessment of her was that she was strikingly beautiful and seemed to have a good head on her shoulders. After their second date, she had been discussing marriage with him. He was not ready for that step. Of course, Brooke definitely seemed like she could have made a wonderful wife someday. During their relationship, she’d cooked his meals, cleaned his house, washed his clothes, and still managed to make time to spend time with him. He hadn’t even asked her to do those things for him. Not that he ever would have. He was more than capable of doing things on his own. Although she had some perfect qualities that any man would want, she was just too clingy most of the time. It was as if she didn’t have a life of her own. When he would go out to hang with his best friend Matthew, she would cry believing that he didn’t want to spend time with her. The ironic part was that he’d spent most of his free time with her yet that still was not enough. He’d spent way too much time trying to please someone who found fault in everything. He’d had enough of her antics after this last episode of hers. There was only so much a man could take. He’d always tried to avoid drama but somehow it always managed to find him. Sighing heavily, he decided that getting out of the house for a few hours was a good idea.
